If you think the Vaucluse is only a summer destination, take another look.
This weekend Vaison-la-Romaine hosted the seventh annual ‘Rencontres Gourmandes’. The event brings together some 50 local producers of food and drink. There are demonstrations, workshops, tastings, competitions, and the opportunity to wine and dine in the centre of it all. And all the while you are being entertained by musicians, artists and chefs.
And I nearly forgot to mention – entrance is free.
Last Sunday was a balmy, sunny 25 degrees Celcius. We decided to take a 45 minute drive from La Genestiere to one of the most attractive villages in Provence – l’Isle sur la Sorgue.
The town takes its name from the River Sorgue which originates at the town of Fontaine de Vaucluse. It is the biggest spring in France and the fifth biggest in the world.
While the river is well-known to both canoeists and trout fisherman (myself included), we were there to visit the Sunday market, which attracts people from all over the world. I have never visited the town outside of July and August, and it was a joy to benefit from the October sunshine without having to struggle with the crowds of summer.
